Selling The Big Game
As a free market conservative I am not usually one to cry sell-out or to decry marketing as a trick to get people to buy what they don’t need. But I must admit that I that the news that SBC has bought the rights to the Ohio State - Michigan football game saddens me. I mean this game is one of the best traditions in all of sports. This game means more to me than almost any other single game (Super Bowl included). And now it is going to be called the SBC Classic?! What a shame. It takes something that was pure and traditional and turns it into another marketing campaign.
Don’t get me wrong, the game will still be huge and the rivalry will continue. But it will have an added layer of annoying commercials and marketing associated with it, and that just seems like a sad thing.
UPDATE: They’ve called the whole thing off.

I blogged on that this morning as well, and was thinking of you when I did before knowing you got to it as well.
At least we didn’t get it named after an ED treatment.
