Post-Bowl Depression II OK. OK.

Post-Bowl Depression II
OK. OK. OK!!! Enough already, the Big Ten stunk this year and the SEC rules the universe like some Greek demi-god. I can barely turn on sports radio or surf the net without hearing some yahoo from Tennessee going on and on about how the Vols whooped the Wolverines and how this means that the Big Ten can never brag about the strength of their conference. Hey Tennessee – Yes, your team was clearly better and played that way. Its not my fault you screwed up and lost to LSU (another fine team from a great conference that demolished the lowly Big Ten representative Illinois – OK). The plain fact of the matter is that in college football speed kills (see Oregon, Florida, LSU, etc.). The SEC had more speed at the skills positions than the Big Ten teams this year and it showed. But I think everyone (at least honest people) knew it was going to be a down year for the Big Ten. Take Michigan for example. The core of their offense went pro – something like three offensive lineman plus Anthony Thomas their star running back and David Terrell their best receiver plus Drew Henson leaving for baseball. That?s a lot of talent to lose and still compete. Think what might have been had Henson and Terrell returned to Michigan combined with Marquise Walker, Michigan would have had the weapons to compete for the National Championship. But given their losses they were bound to come up short – thrown in the seeming retrogression of QB John Navarre and you have trouble. Michigan got to the Citrus Bowl because of a weak conference (and the skills of Marquise Walker) and its reputation. By the way Vols – Michigan is the winningest team in NCAA division I history so kiss off! I feel better now – just had to get that off my chest.
