Bad Beer Good Foundation

by Kevin

In a weird confluence of beer and politics we offer this news note: Joseph Coors has passed away.

Two things I want to point out:
- Coors beer is disgusting. My family in Texas drinks it but I never touch the stuff. They do, however, produce Killians which is decent. When I worked at the Heritage foundation they of course (see below) served Coors’ products at their events and I was always grateful for the cold Killians as an option. It is hard to be choosey about free beer but hey I have standards.
- More important than the beer (scary thought I know), however, is what he did with his money:

In the 1970s, Coors began providing money and his famous name to start the Heritage Foundation, the influential think tank in Washington, D.C. Even earlier, he served as one of Reagan’s advisers and backers in the “Kitchen Cabinet,” which financed Reagan’s political career from the governorship of California to the White House. The two first met in Palm Springs, California, in 1967.
“Without Joe Coors, the Heritage Foundation wouldn’t exist — and the conservative movement it nurtures would be immeasurably poorer,” the foundation’s president, Edwin Feulner, said in a statement.

The Heritage Foundation does great work and they are a huge asset to the conservative movement. It is a powerful legacy and testament to the power of ideas. R.I.P.
