That’s right, Collected Miscellany is moving back to its original domain.
For the few of you who have been reading this blog in all of its various iterations this announcement must seem a little tiring. I mean how many times can a blog change names, urls, and subject matters? What can I say? I am a fickle person.
The motivation for this change is twofold. The initial motivation is technical. For some time now I have been having problems with the interaction between Movable Type and my hosting company. I have been unable to get this resolved. So when the hosting and registration renewal for Collected Miscellany dot com recently came up, i decided that it was a good time to act.
I felt like it was also a good time to make something of a fresh start. So I changed hosts, had the latests version of MT installed, and imported the content to the new blog. It took some time, but I also think I have saved most of the important content links and pointed them over to the new posts. I though it was good to try and salvage some of the important reviews and interviews I had posted at the site previously. Ironically, the Collected Miscellany domain seems to have more Google juice so that site seemed to get better traffic dormant than this site did with regular – or at least semi-regular – posting.
In addition to the technical rationale behind the move, there is also a personal one. Despite the potential burden of having two blogs, I think it is best to have some separation of content. It seems best to keep the Kevin Holtsberry dot com domain as more of a personal blog while the Collected Miscellany domain seems better suited to a book review site.
So moving forward here is how things will work. I am going to work on changing this domain into a personal blog (and I might start using the front page instead). It will have my thoughts on whatever strikes my fancy: sports, culture, my family, etc. Collected Miscellany dot com will be the place where I put book reviews, interviews, and discussion of literary issues.
The focus on CM.com is going to be on quality over quantity (I know, promises, promises . . .). I simply don’t have the time or focus at this point to be a active literary blog with lots of links and comments on articles and inter-blog debates. Instead, it will be a place where I offer my thoughts on the books and author’s I enjoy. Sort of a reading journal but with interviews and some discussion thrown in. To kick things off this week, there is a chance to win comic books.
I apologize for moving things around yet again, but I think this is the best way forward for me and will provide the right content focus for readers. As always, comments, thoughts, and reaction appreciated.
