Wolverines need polish and poise
by Kevin
I have to agree with this Peter Bigelow article on what the Michigan football teams needs to show the rest of the season:
They’re not Penn State yet, and that’s fine. No one expects them to be playing at that level halfway through Rodriguez’s second year of a big-time rebuilding project.
But it’s fair to think the Wolverines should be more polished and poised by this point of the Rodriguez era. In the final four games of the regular season, that’s what they need to show on the field.
Improvement won’t get them to the Rose Bowl.
But it would be enough to get them a victory, get them into the postseason, and get them a badge of pride.
And that was what I was looking for heading into the game. I could have dealt with a hard fought and close loss – I wouldn’t have liked it but I could have dealt with it. But getting blown out and looking confused and outmatched flet like a big step back.
Illinois is the next yardstick. If we can’t beat up on the worst team in the league like everyone else then 1) the hole from last years “the horror” is deeper than I had thought and 2) it is going to be a long rest of the season.
But a strong win against a flailing Illinois can boost the team’s confidence and set Michigan on the path to a bowl game.
