Steelers survive Ravens; playoff hopes alive

Let’s face it. In some important ways the Baltimore Ravens lost yesterday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers more than the Steelers won it. Don’t get me wrong the Steelers defense finally made a few plays in the fourth quarter which was nice. But again the Steelers settled for field goals on key possessions and looked [...]

Winners; Steelers playoff hopes remain alive

Well, the Pittsburgh Steelers finally managed to win a game. They nearly killed me in the process, and it took every last second of the game, but they beat the Green Bay Packers in thrilling fashion to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.

Losers

There is no other word to describe a team that was supposed to be fighting for its playoff life and the right to defend its Super Bowl title, yet was thoroughly outplayed by the 1-11 Browns, an opponent that — quoting safety Ryan Clark now — “even a bad Pittsburgh Steelers team should be able [...]

Why I think the Steelers will win today

Some quick thoughts on why the Steelers will win tonight: The Steelers will run the ball and the Cardinals won’t.  Willie Parker will get outside and rip off some big runs, IMO.  I don’t think the Cardinals will be able to run and I am not sure they will try that much. The Steelers will [...]

Pittsburgh Steelers AFC Champions

As I said on Twitter, I am still trying to get my head around the Steelers being in the Super Bowl.  It is a great feeling (particularly after the debacle that was Michigan’s season). To be honest, if you had told me that the Steelers would make the Super Bowl with this offensive line and [...]

Quote of the Day: Steelers Ravens Rivalry

Awesome quote: “Every block, every tackle — none of them are done casually,” said Steelers radio broadcaster Tunch Ilkin, who played in Pittsburgh from 1980 to 1992. “They’re all done with full intensity and malicious intent. If you have a chance to rub a guy’s face in the dirt on a tackle, you do. If [...]

Ravens stand between Steelers and Super Bowl

One rematch down another one ahead.  The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the San Diego Chargers for second time and now face the Baltimore Ravens for the third time for a chance at the Super Bowl. The Steelers 35-24 win was just what Steelers fans were hoping for.  After a suprising bomb – made possible by both [...]

Football Fandom Convergence

It is fun when one of your favorite players from college ends up on your favorite pro team.  This happened to me when former Michigan Wolverine LaMarr Woodley ended up with the Pittsburgh Steelers.  It worked out for everyone:

Steelers Win a Big One in Foxboro

I noted yesterday on Twitter how satisfying Sunday’s Steelers win over New England was for their fans. The Patriots have been a nemesis for some time. Beating them was sweet for that reason alone, but it also set up the Steelers for a Super Bowl run. They kept their divisional lead over Baltimore and kept [...]

Roethlisberger costs the Steelers another game

It is a little hard sometimes to be critical of Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger.  Playing behind a sub-par offensive line he is often battered, bruised, and running for his life.  And he frequently makes big plays by improvising.  But he also has Bret Favre syndrome and can force things with disastrous results.  And lately [...]
